On July 15, 2003, IBM successfully acquired Presence Online Pty Limited (trading as Aptrix). All remaining employees (approximately 40 in total) were given positions within IBM and any existing Support contracts were to be maintained by ex-Aptrix Support staff at IBM (Australia).
On September 5, 2003, the first version of (IBM) Lotus Workplace Web Content Management (LWWCM) was released containing Aptrix Content Server.
Lotus (Lotus Labs) themselves have said:
"...There was a lot of excitement on the Lotus Labs team when we heard about IBM's recent acquisition of Aptrix. With an information-rich site like ours, we're always on the lookout for tools to help us better manage and present our wide variety of content. And the more we learned about Aptrix's IBM Lotus Workplace Web Content Management (LWWCM) solution, the more we became convinced that we could benefit from these tools, both internally and externally to manage our site content..."
Since then there have been several further releases:
NOTE: As of 30 September 2007, version 2.0 will no longer be supported by IBM.
As of 9th November 2004, IBM Lotus Workplace Web Content Management is now called IBM Workplace Web Content Management.1
Versions 5.1 / 6.x are now integrated with WebSphere Portal Server 5.1 / 6.x respectively.
I have been consulting in LWWCM since October 2000. I already know the benefits of these tools and their applications. Visit my Services page for more information.
1 -- Perhaps in the next rename it will be shortened even further to simply IBM Web Content Management.
