Aptrix Content Server (now called LWWCM) is able to run on both Lotus Domino and Java (J2EE) platforms. The current version for the Java platform is version 5.1 and is bundled with WebSphere Portal Server as version 5.1 (A separate version 2.5 is also available which is designed to run under WebSphere Portal Server 5.0.2.2). This new version has several major improvements including better user management through integration with WebSphere Member Manager.
Under Domino, once the system is installed and setup, content can be created easily either using Lotus Notes clients, using an internet browser, or a combination of both. Many of the administrative tasks (such as workflows, site area maintenance, and configuration) still require access to a Lotus Notes client, however, organisations don't need to have a Notes environment to publish content.
Under Java, which IBM recommend using WebSphere as the Java Engine, users perform all tasks (including administration) via an internet browser client.
With WebSphere Portal 5.1 (Express / Extend) editions, IBM Workplace Web Content Management is installed (but not configured) by default. Additional features include integrated user management within Portal, access restrictions to the Interface sections (Content Management, Site Management, Version Management, etc), and batch editing of security settings - a definite improvement.
