Look & Feel...

Designing the look and feel

Once you have decided why you need a web site, the type of people you are expecting to visit your site, and the content you are going to display, you need to look at creating a design. How will the content be displayed? What type of navigation will you require for your users to navigate around your site? What will your brand look like on the web?

You may need to create several layouts or "pagestyles" for the web site. Alternative pagestyles may contain alternative navigation or indicators to show where on the site they are - so they don't get lost and confused and go to a less confusing (competitor) site.

Corporate colours may need to be included in the design or even a company logo.

The "Look and Feel" of a site is often an iterative process. Your "draft" designs should be shown to test users to let them spend some time using the design and give you feedback. Don't just listen to what they say. Watch what they do and interact with them to find out what they like and dislike about the design.

As part of the process, I can design and create "mock-up" screen shots of example pages before the web design is finalised.

The look of your site should match the look of the rest of your materials and presentations. But may need to be modified slightly for the web - some colours just don't work together on screen! In addition to giving you the benefit of a unified image, this should also save you money on original artwork.
