Visual Disabilities...

Visually impaired bookworm

The most serious accessibility problems, probably relate to blind users and users with other visual disabilities, since most Web pages are highly visual. It is quite common to see combinations of background and foreground colours that make pages virtually unreadable for colour-blind users or at least difficult for even the visually able.

By using correct HTML coding techniques, I can design or recommend the best methods for coding for the visually impaired.

For people who are visually impaired, having the ability to control the size of text is very important. Using relative font sizes, the user is able to select the most appropriate display size. "em" and "%" are both relative settings, whilst "pt" and "px" are based on a users screen resolution. The higher the resolution of the screen, the smaller the text becomes.

Obviously highly graphical web sites may need to code certain areas with absolute pixel sizes, so that the screen layout doesn't "break" if a larger font is selected by the user. However, even if it is only the content section of the web page, at least the majority of the page is readable.
